La Sirene Mixed media, wire, masking tape, acrylic, paper, PVA, acrylic gel medium on canvas 43 3⁄4” x 26 3⁄4”

Artist Bio: Paul Leroy (b.1971), is an Atlanta based Interdisciplinary Haitian American artist. He received a BFA from Florida International University in 1995 and a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2001. His work has been published and exhibited in Atlanta, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Paul Leroy's process involves a synthesis of tactile approaches: torn paper on canvas, sculpture, printmaking, painting and collage. His work is inspired by the peeling remnants of commercial advertising, the weathered remains of street art taking on a life of its own, once perhaps slick and glossy, but falling into neglect and resembling fragments of ancient ruins. Through the use of abstract figurative representations in landscapes, Leroy explores the contrasting interrelated dynamics between dominating nature and being a part of it, the cyclical relationship between light and dark, and the transformative experience of connecting with nature.

Featured Artist: Emmanuel Ronald Bertrand

ARTIST BIO: Emmanuel Ronald Bertrand created his first portrait at the age of twelve. From that first tentative drawing, he developed a fascination for the arts that continues today. In early eighties he attended the Sisters of St. Ann art classes in Haiti, where he learned the basic structure of human posture and started portraiture. He enjoyed art lesson, that he started teaching the neighborhoods kids what he was learning, by creating his own painting class on his mother’s kitchen table. In Mid-eighties, while participating in a group study in high school he helped an architect student completing an assignment, there he fell in love with architecture.

After completing his high school, he migrated to the US and studied architecture. Bertrand is a graduate architect who produces art between architectural projects.  He worked in several firms in Miami and Atlanta.  He completed several projects throughout the southeastern of united stated and hold a general contractor license.

His work is an exploration of the endless nuances of expression found in the human face and a study of the infinite posturing of the human body adapted to these nuances.  For Bertrand, each creation is an emotional endeavor that produces a stunning piece of work.

He freely experiments with various art mediums and differing subject matter to escape to a world where life is reduced to pigment and the size of his canvas. He works at his craft in taking workshops with artist such as Damon Carter, Shane McDonald, Christian Sajous.

Bertrand currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his lovely wife and their two daughters.
